Exploring and discussing a variety of relationship topics and issues for people in all kinds of relationships; including partnerships, family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, roommates and more.

Oct 16, 2018

Setting boundaries in relationships is usually a challenging topic to tackle, and with good reason. Aside from the fact that the very idea of imposing restrictions between yourself and your partner is hard to define, the act itself can be quite tricky to navigate — especially if you’re afraid that you might offend your partner. What many don’t realize is that setting healthy boundaries won’t tear your relationship apart; in fact, it’ll strengthen it, or perhaps even save it.

On today’s episode, I break down the details of boundary-setting in relationships, from defining the concept to classifying the types of boundaries you need to set. I explain the concept of differentiation within the context of a relationship and explain why it’s important to set aside time for personal activities and to put your needs at the forefront. I also share personal stories that illustrate the importance of saying “no” and how to say it properly, the impact of setting healthy boundaries on your relationship and your life in general, and the consequences of failing to do so.
